WORTH COUNTY, Iowa 鈥� Voters in Manly, Fertile, Grafton, Hanlontown and Joice, as well as rural areas in southeastern and western Worth County, overwhelmingly approved public measures Tuesday to create Emergency Medical Services districts.
This means property owners in those incorporated and unincorporated areas will be levied an annual tax to pay for EMS services from the Mason City Fire Department or the Winnebago County Ambulance Service.
Worth County Supervisor A.J. Stone said the MCFD and Winnebago County Ambulance are already serving those areas of the county but need supplemental funds to continue to do so. He noted this is a statewide issue.
The levy for the Southeast Worth County, Grafton, and Manly EMS districts will be 85 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation, while the levy for the West Worth, Joice, Hanlontown and Fertile districts will be 45 cents per $1,000 assessed valuation.
The approval percentage for the ballot measures to set up the districts ranged from 93% to 97%.
