LOWER NAZARETH TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Nine people were sent to the hospital after animal repellent was accidentally sprayed in the Walmart in Lower Nazareth Township, according to police.
The store off Route 248 was evacuated due to the chemical spray at 3 p.m. Sunday, according to Colonial Regional Police Department Chief James DePalma.
Someone was returning the repellent when it accidentally sprayed, sending noxious fumes into the air, DePalma said.
He said six employees and three customers complained of respiratory issues due to the spray.
The odor triggered a large response from local EMS and firefighters to help police. The response came as drenching thunderstorms rumbled through the area.
DePalma said the store will remain closed until the mess caused by the spray is cleaned up.
