Rochester fire officials said a propane heater caught fire before the blast

ROCHESTER, Mich. — Two children and three adults are hospitalized with serious injuries after a , fire officials said Monday.

The Rochester Fire Department did not disclose where the five were taken Saturday.

They said updates on their conditions were not available.

Three victims were hospitalized at Ascension Providence Rochester Hospital; two with minor injuries and one with a moderate injury requiring surgery, an Ascension Rochester health worker told The Detroit News.

Several others on the scene when the incident was reported were treated by medical personnel and then released, according to the release.

The fire department did not name the business where the explosion occurred but said it was on Main Street.

The 423 Main Bar Grill & Rooftop and Good Company Realty both had visible damage Sunday.

Fire crews were called to the scene around 8:42 p.m. for a report of flames and then heard a blast while headed there, according to the release.

“A propane torch heater on the sidewalk caught fire and shortly after exploded,” fire officials said. “The explosion sent debris flying into the air through the air causing damage and injuries.”

The blast led to authorities calling in ambulances from neighboring areas to help.

Officials closed Main Street between Fourth and Universal for hours as crews cleaned up.

Rochester police and Oakland County Sheriff’s officials are investigating the cause of the explosion.
